Champion of the 29th Hong Kong Print Awards (2017) – Calendar Printing Category
This award-winning calendar was designed and produced by Ameba Design Ltd (賴維鈞設計有限公司) using various fine art papers from Fedrigoni, an Italian paper manufacturer.
The packaging features a drawer-style rigid box that can be fully pulled out. The outer sleeve resembles a large matchbox, with an aged, slightly yellowed nostalgic texture achieved through Offset Printing. A particularly clever detail is the side of the sleeve, where Screen Printing is used to add thickness and texture, mimicking the phosphorus strip on a matchbox—an eye-catching and thoughtful design.
Upon opening the box, the calendar itself is revealed.
The red base is made of Ispira – Rosso Passione 120gsm, which has a velvety, smooth texture and is used for the wet mounting of the structure.
For the cover, Sirio Pearl – Aurum 230gsm, a gold-toned, pearlescent paper, was chosen. To create a gradient effect, Offset Printing was applied, overlaying shades of gray and black onto the gold surface to simulate varying light reflections. The focal point of the design is a realistically sized matchstick, appearing as if it's glowing. The flame is crafted using two types of hot foil stamping: floral-patterned laser orange and gold foil, while the wooden stick and the "2017 Light Up Hong Kong" text are embossed, adding layers of depth.
To further emphasize the "Light Up" theme, a large radiating glow effect was created around the matchstick using spot varnish, making the design appear luminous under different lighting angles—a reflection of Hong Kong’s energy and vibrancy.
February – The Rooster Bowl and Rice
For the February page, Stucco Tintoretto – Gesso 320gsm (a textured fine art paper resembling watercolor paper) was used. The design features an illustration of a traditional Cantonese rooster bowl filled with steaming rice, accompanied by Cantonese phrases.
Many Taiwanese viewers may wonder—why a rooster bowl?
The rooster bowl is a quintessential symbol of Hong Kong and Guangdong culture. Before Hong Kong's economic boom, these bowls were affordable, slightly gaudy yet full of character, offering an alternative to plain white porcelain bowls. They became a staple of everyday Hong Kong life, commonly used for serving rice. Their popularity surged further after repeated appearances in Stephen Chow's films, making them an iconic cultural emblem.
To enhance the rice texture, a pearlescent laser gold foil was applied. Additionally, Embossing was used to create a three-dimensional effect, making the grains of rice visually and tactilely distinct. The highlight of this page, however, is the phrase "Hong Kong Morning, Everyone Full of Energy" (香港早晨 人人精神)—a phrase that perfectly captures the fast-paced yet lively spirit of Hong Kong.
April – Goldfish in Plastic Bags
For April, the design features Sirio Pearl – Ice White 300gsm, a pearlescent white paper. A transparent PET overlay with matte white screen-printed dots was added. The unprinted areas create the illusion of a plastic bag tied shut, containing two goldfish—one gold, one red.
But why goldfish?
In Hong Kong, goldfish symbolize prosperity and good fortune, with their bright colors and elegant movements bringing positive energy. Many people keep goldfish at home or in offices, believing they enhance the environment. This cultural significance gave rise to Goldfish Street (Tung Choi Street) in Mong Kok, a famous marketplace dedicated to ornamental fish, aquatic plants, and aquarium supplies. Shops in this district display rows upon rows of plastic bags filled with oxygen and individual goldfish, creating a visually striking and unique scene—a staple of Hong Kong’s cultural identity and a popular attraction for visitors.
July – Metal Roller Shutters and Integrity
For July, Splendorlux / Embossed – E43 Laser Argento 250gsm was used. This pearlescent paper has fine diagonal lines that change in contrast under different lighting conditions. Its metallic sheen was chosen to replicate the texture of Hong Kong’s ubiquitous metal roller shutters.
Offset Printing was used to create a light-dark contrast, mimicking the appearance of partially open shutters. Meanwhile, Laser Cutting was applied to the decorative floral engravings, replicating the intricate details of traditional storefront shutters. The red mailbox on the page features large "Integrity" (誠信) characters, while the background is filled with Cantonese proverbs emphasizing the importance of honesty, including:
"牙齒當金使 最緊要講信" (Even if you treat your words as valuable as gold, honesty is the most important thing).
No matter the era, integrity remains a fundamental value.
October – Egg Waffles and Kraft Paper
For October, the paper choice was Materica – Kraft 120gsm, a thick, uncoated fine art paper with a rich kraft texture—a perfect fit for one of Hong Kong’s most beloved street foods: Egg Waffles (雞蛋仔)!
Egg waffles trace their origins back to 1950s Hong Kong, when grocery stores sought to repurpose cracked eggs that were unsuitable for sale. They mixed the eggs with flour and butter to create a crispy, golden-brown snack. Over time, specialized egg-shaped molds were developed, and different flavors were introduced, solidifying egg waffles as a quintessential Hong Kong street food.
This calendar not only celebrates Hong Kong’s visual and material culture through paper selection and printing techniques but also captures the city's spirit and everyday life in a beautifully crafted, multi-sensory experience.

本次介紹在2017年第29屆香港印製大獎，日曆印刷項目的冠軍作品。
由Ameba Design Ltd (賴維鈞設計有限公司 ) 所設計製作，紙張則選用來自義大利造紙廠Fedrigoni的各式美術紙系列。
包裝的方式為可完全拉出的抽屜式濕裱盒，在最外層的袖套看起來像個大型的火柴盒，以Offset Printing呈現存放了一段時間略為泛黃懷舊的質感，這裡有個相當具巧思的地方，在袖套的側邊利用Screen printing所增加的厚度與紋路疊上印刷的顏色，模擬近似火柴盒側邊用於點著火柴頭的紅磷，令人印象深刻。
盒子打開後是本次月曆的本體，
紅色的底座是擁有如天鵝絨般絲滑質地的 Ispira – Rosso Passione 120gsm進行濕裱。
封面選擇的紙張是金色帶有珍珠光澤的 Sirio Pearl – Aurum 230gsm，將本來金色的紙張以Offset Printing印上漸層的灰黑色，模擬出光線不同的明暗表現，並且直接地以一根比例接近實體大小，正在閃閃發亮的火柴作為視覺呈現；火柴中心的火焰部分使用碎花雷射橘以及金色兩種金箔進行 Hot Foil Stamping，木柴以及下方的2017撻著香港則以 Embossing 令整體增添了不同的層次，有趣的是，似乎是為了更加強調「Light Up」的主題，環繞著火柴以俗稱局部光(Spot Varnish)的方式製作大面積的放射狀光芒，在不同的光線反射之下，確實感受到香港的自信與光輝。
在二月的頁面選擇了帶著水彩紙毯紋的 Stucco Tintoretto = Gesso 320gsm ，以Offset Printing 印刷雞公碗盛著滿滿米飯佐著數句廣東話作為主要視覺，可能會有不少台灣的朋友會好奇，為什麼碗上要畫一隻公雞呢？
雞公碗是一個很「香港」或是廣東省的物件，早期香港經濟還未起飛時，由於價格實惠帶點俗氣卻又很有精神的手繪圖像，不同於一般白瓷碗的無趣，象徵著庶民與平民的生活，它就是老香港日常生活拿來盛裝米飯的碗，也因為多次出現在周星馳的電影中而被廣為人知，作為香港具有代表性的文化之一。
在米飯的部分使用了特別的珠光雷射金箔以外，為了呈現米飯的圓弧顆粒形狀，使用了浮雕版進行了 Embossing 的加工，相當別緻。但我特別喜歡上面寫著「香港早晨 人人精神」這八個大字，這很接近我對於香港朋友們匆忙著工作，但又總是充滿精神著過著每一天的生活態度。
四月則是使用了雪白色並帶有珍珠光澤的 Sirio Pearl – Ice White 300gsm，在上方蓋了一張藉由Screen Printing印上許多消光白色圓點的透明PET片，未被白圓點遮蔽的地方看起來像是綑綁起來的透明塑膠袋，裡頭裝著一金一紅的兩支金魚，至於為什麼會有金魚的元素呢？
許多香港人認為金魚長相富貴、色彩豐富，是好兆頭的象徵，在辦公室或家中擺一缸金魚又能美化環境，於是發展出了位於旺角的通菜街（又稱金魚街），在這裡的街道上幾乎清一色販售各種觀賞用魚、水草及水族用品，最大的特色在於這裡的店舖，會將魚分別放入不同的小塑膠袋中並打入氧氣，並且一排又一排的掛在店門口的架子上，如此特殊且炫目的情景就變成了相當具有識別性的香港文化之一，也出現在各類觀光旅遊的景點中。
七月使用的是 Splendorlux / Embossed – E43 Laser argento 250gsm ，紙張表面帶有珍珠光澤，並隨著光線會有不同層次對比的細緻斜紋線條，而珍珠光澤特有的金屬質地，恰好呼應香港常見店家鐵拉門的金屬質地，以Offset Printing讓油墨分隔了拉門的明暗對比，並將傳統雕花的部分使用Laser Cutting進行細節的雕琢，對於實物的細節上十分考究，以印刷品的方式重現近似的感覺出來。
紅色的信箱有著大大的誠信兩字，背後則有許多廣東話寫著「誠信」對於做人的重要：「牙齒當金使 最緊要講信」，無論在什麼年代，都是不能忘記的警惕與精神。
最後，十月使用的是帶有濃厚牛皮質地的美術用紙 Materica – Kraft 120gsm ，J個很明就是為了裝雞蛋仔la～
雞蛋仔其實是發源於香港五十年代，雜貨店為了避免浪費運送過程中不小心破裂的雞蛋，就將麵粉與牛油和蛋漿混合一起烘培產生的點心，後來因為起源跟雞蛋實在太有關係了，於是有人製作了像是雞蛋的模具，加上各種口味的改良之後，成為我們今天常見的港味街頭小吃。

今回ご紹介するのは、2017年第29回香港印刷大賞のカレンダー印刷部門で優勝した作品です。
このカレンダーは、Ameba Design Ltd（賴維鈞設計有限公司）がデザイン・制作を手掛け、イタリアの製紙会社Fedrigoniの多様なファインペーパーシリーズが使用されています。
パッケージは完全に引き出せる引き出し式の貼り箱で、外側のスリーブはまるで大型のマッチ箱のようなデザイン。Offset Printingにより、時間が経過してやや黄ばみを帯びたレトロな風合いが再現されています。特筆すべきはスリーブの側面で、Screen Printingを施して印刷部分に厚みとテクスチャーを加えることで、マッチ箱の側面にある赤リンのような質感を表現している点。細部に至るまでこだわりが詰まった印象的なデザインです。
箱を開けると、カレンダー本体が現れます。
赤色の台座には、天鵞絨のような滑らかな質感を持つ「Ispira – Rosso Passione 120gsm」を使用し、貼り加工が施されています。
表紙には、金色のパール光沢を持つ「Sirio Pearl – Aurum 230gsm」を選択。もともと金色の紙にOffset Printingでグラデーションのグレーとブラックを重ねることで、光の当たり方による陰影の変化をリアルに再現しました。また、中央には実物大に近い一本の輝くマッチが描かれており、その炎の部分には、オレンジ系のホログラム箔とゴールド箔を用いたHot Foil Stampingが施されています。さらに、マッチ棒部分と下部の「2017 撻着香港（Light Up Hong Kong）」の文字にはEmbossingが施され、立体感が生まれています。面白いのは、「Light Up」というテーマを強調するため、マッチの周囲にSpot Varnish（部分光沢加工）を施し、放射状の光を表現している点です。光の角度によって反射が変わり、香港のエネルギッシュな輝きを感じられるデザインとなっています。
2月のページには、水彩紙のような風合いを持つ「Stucco Tintoretto – Gesso 320gsm」を使用。Offset Printingで鶏の絵が描かれた碗にたっぷりの白米と広東語のフレーズをプリントしました。
台湾の方々は、「なぜ碗に鶏の絵が描かれているの？」と疑問に思うかもしれません。
この「雞公碗（ガイコンワン）」は、香港や広東省で馴染みの深いアイテムです。香港の経済が発展する前の時代、価格が手頃で少し素朴ながらも力強い手描きのデザインが特徴でした。一般的な白磁の碗とは異なり、庶民の生活に根ざした象徴的な存在であり、香港の日常に欠かせないものだったのです。また、周星馳（チャウ・シンチー）の映画にも頻繁に登場することで広く知られるようになり、香港文化を代表するアイテムの一つとなりました。
米粒の部分には、特別なパールホログラム箔を使用し、Embossing（浮き彫り加工）によって、米の丸みを帯びた粒感をリアルに表現。細部にまでこだわったデザインとなっています。さらに、ページに大きく書かれた「香港早晨 人人精神（香港の朝は活気に満ちている）」の文字が印象的で、忙しく働きながらもエネルギッシュに日々を過ごす香港の人々の姿を彷彿とさせます。
4月のデザインには、パール光沢のある「Sirio Pearl – Ice White 300gsm」を使用。表面には、Screen Printingで印刷された無数のマットホワイトのドットが施された透明PETシートが重ねられています。未印刷の部分は透けて見え、そこに赤と金の2匹の金魚が描かれています。
なぜ金魚がデザインに取り入れられたのでしょうか？
香港では、金魚は豊かさや幸運の象徴とされており、オフィスや家庭に水槽を置くことで環境を美しくし、運気を上げると考えられています。この文化が発展し、旺角の通菜街（通称：金魚街）には、観賞魚や水草、水槽用品を扱う店が軒を連ねるようになりました。このエリアの最大の特徴は、個々の魚を小さなビニール袋に分け、酸素を充填して、一列に並べて吊るしている光景です。鮮やかな金魚がずらりと並ぶ独特な光景は、香港文化を象徴するアイコンの一つとして、観光客にも人気があります。
7月のページには、「Splendorlux / Embossed – E43 Laser Argento 250gsm」を使用。紙の表面にはパール光沢があり、光の加減によって繊細な斜めのストライプが浮かび上がります。この金属のような質感は、香港の街でよく見かける店舗のシャッターを彷彿とさせます。Offset Printingでシャッターの陰影を再現し、さらに、伝統的な装飾部分にはLaser Cuttingを施すことで、細部まで精緻に作り込まれています。
また、赤色の郵便受けには「誠信（誠実・信用）」の大きな文字が刻まれ、その背景には広東語で「誠実さの重要性」を説く言葉が並んでいます。「牙齒當金使 最緊要講信（歯は金のように大切、だからこそ信用が最も重要）」といった言葉は、時代を超えても忘れてはならない教訓として伝えられています。
最後に、10月のデザインには、クラフト紙の風合いを持つ「Materica – Kraft 120gsm」を使用。
このデザインは、一目見ただけで「これはエッグワッフル（雞蛋仔）のための紙だ！」と分かるような仕上がりです。
雞蛋仔（エッグワッフル）は、1950年代の香港で生まれた伝統的なストリートスナックです。雑貨店が輸送中に割れてしまった卵を無駄にしないため、粉とバター、卵液を混ぜて焼いたのが始まりとされています。その後、卵の形をした特製の型が作られ、さまざまなフレーバーが加えられるようになり、現在のような「香港を代表する屋台グルメ」として親しまれるようになりました。
